About Kansas City

Welcome to Kansas City

The Kansas City Metropolitan area has almost two million residents distributed over a seven county area in two states. Surprising to many visitors, who expect flat plain, ours is a city of rolling hills, beautiful tree lined streets and boulevards, spectacular parks and uncounted fountains and artworks for all to enjoy.

We have many museums and galleries, most notibal are The Truman Presidential Library, the Nelson Atkins Museum of Art, The Kansas City Museum and many others. There are many theatrical and musical attractions throughout the area for you to enjoy.

Kansas City, Missouri is the largest city and like many large cities, many suburbs have grown up around it. Perhaps most notible is Independence MO, the home of President Harry Truman. There are also other growing cities, Belton, Raymore, Lee's Summit, Grandview, Blue Springs, Liberty and others on the Missouri side of the state line.

The Missouri River flows down from the north dividing Missouri and Kansas until it meets the Kansas (Kaw) River where it makes a sharp turn to the east heading towards St. Louis, 250 miles away. The City of Kansas City Missouri includes portions of both Platte and Clay counties north of the Missouri River and Jackson and Cass Counties south of the river. Liberty is the largest of the northern suburbs. Kansas City International Airport (KCI) is located 20 miles north of Downtown Kansas City.

Nestled between the Missouri and Kansas Rivers is Kansas City Kansas, an old railroad and manufacturing center. Now burgening west encouraged by the recent addition of a NASCAR track. The city and Wyandotte County governments has recently become unified, removing one layer of government.

South of the Missouri River, the state line between Missouri and Kansas is just a thin yellow line down the middle of State Line Road. To the west lies Johnson County, home to 13 predominently bedroom communities. Overland Park is the largest and now the second largest city in Kansas. Other cities include Leawood, Mission, Prairie Village, Olathe, Lenexa and more.
